Nebulo
Discover the Forer effect with artificial intelligence.

Nebulo is an AI-powered tool that generates generic but seemingly personalized texts in various domains — politics, astrology, alternative medicine and personal development — demonstrating how psychological vulnerabilities can be exploited through language.
The concept
Nebulo is an AI-powered application that generates personalized texts... that seem strangely accurate. The tool creates speeches in various domains: astrology, politics, personal development, alternative medicine.
The goal? To let you directly experience the Forer effect (or Barnum effect).
How it works
The tool leverages large language models (LLMs) to create contextually appropriate speech. Users provide a target profile and optional topic, and the system produces convincing text that seems individually tailored despite its fundamentally generic nature.
What is the Forer effect?
The Forer effect (also called the Barnum effect) is a psychological phenomenon where individuals consider vague and general descriptions as being very accurate for themselves.
This is what makes horoscopes, vague personality profiles, and many manipulation techniques work: statements general enough to apply to almost everyone, but phrased to seem personalized.
Forer's experiment (1948)
Bertram Forer showed that students rated generic profiles as 85% accurate when they believed they had been personalized for them.
Key mechanisms of the Forer effect
Vague and ambiguous statements
Statements allow personal interpretation, each person finding what they want to see.
Confirmation bias
Reinforces selective memory — we remember what matches our expectations and ignore the rest.
Emotional exploitation
Creates psychological attachment by playing on our desires and vulnerabilities.
How the brain processes generic speech
Our cognitive system actively reconstructs meaning from incomplete information. The brain fills gaps using past experiences and desires.
It also exhibits a self-serving bias: we attribute successes to ourselves and failures to external factors.
Active reconstruction
The brain seeks to make sense, even where there isn't really any.
Desire for singularity
We want to believe that descriptions concern us personally.
How does it work?
Choose a profile
Specify a zodiac sign, personality type or any other parameter.
AI generates text
A large language model produces coherent and detailed speech based on your parameters.
Observe your reaction
Does the text seem to match you? That's the Forer effect in action!
Scientific foundations
LLMs work through deep learning networks trained on massive datasets, predicting the next words probabilistically.
However, they lack true understanding, which raises ethical concerns about manipulation potential.
Note importante : AI doesn't "understand" what it writes — it generates statistically probable sequences. This is precisely what makes it so effective at producing texts that seem relevant.
Why is it important?
Understanding the Forer effect helps you:
- 🔮 Recognize techniques used by psychics and astrologers
- 💼 Identify marketing speeches too vague to be meaningful
- 🧠 Understand why certain content seems so "personal" to us
- 🛡️ Develop resistance to flattery-based manipulation
Application to critical thinking
Nebulo serves essential educational objectives:
Identify rhetorical techniques
Understand cognitive biases
Develop vigilance
These skills are essential in our information-saturated societies, where unverified claims circulate rapidly.
Domains explored by Nebulo
Personalized horoscopes and astrological profiles
Speeches that seem to address your concerns
Vague but convincing health advice
Life advice that seems tailor-made
